Putting on Jesus – Toni M. Babcock

I remember standing in front of my clothes rack years ago, trying to figure out what I was going to wear.  I’d be representing the company I worked for, so I didn’t want to appear shabby, mix-matched, or out of style.  It got to be a tedious task. I didn’t have a lot to spend on clothes.  I’d rather throw on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.  Instead, I was obliged to sift through my tired selection blandly thinking to myself “Let’s see… what don’t I want to wear today, because whatever it is, I don’t want to wear it.’

Well, getting clothed with Jesus is a whole different story, and a lot more exciting.  The Apostle Paul explained to new believers exactly what it looked like when he wrote:

“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another.  Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity,” (Colossians 3:12-14 CSB).

Yes, ‘putting on Jesus’ is a lot more important than the clothes hanging in our closets. We’re called to represent Him!  Thankfully wearing Jesus is always in style and gives us the wisdom and confidence we need to meet any challenge.

Wake up to a new day if you’ve never put Him on. “The night is nearly over, and the day is near; so let us discard the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk with decency, as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness; not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and don’t make plans to gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Romans 13:12-14 CSB)
